Down jackets are a 'must have' in New Zealand for the winter. They're pretty much a uniform in the South Island. They're not cheap and when you buy one you want it to last. You don't want to have to worry about brushing past a tree or holding a pile of firewood and the fabric tearing. This is why we thought that we should take on the challenge to make a tougher down jacket. And we did!

We've done some wear testing by performing some of the normal day to day activities of a typical Kiwi bloke/lady and had some good results. Check out the video under the 'media' tab. Although we wouldn't recommend intentionally doing these activites in your new down jacket, it will definitely withstand a bit of rough and tumble.

  • Brush dirt from the product while still dry
  • Hand wash in a warm water using a non-detergent soap or specific down-washing product - preferably one that's nice to the earth
  • Rinse well
  • Drip dry inside out. Then a tennis ball in low heat dryer is good to totally dry it out and the ball breaks up down clumps
  • Close zips while washing (they'll last longer), you can also lightly oil or wax zips periodically to increase their lifespan
